Chloe’s new series of works explore the complexity of emotions surrounding her transition into motherhood, through the lens of her Jewish identity. The works question what it means to be a mother in an increasingly uncertain world; a vessel, a protector, a food source and a partner, within an ever-shifting and expanding identity and set of responsibilities.

These paintings and watercolours expose a sensitive dialectic between trauma and resilience. ‘October Rain’ serves as a direct and raw response to October 7th, reflecting the fear and insecurity it inspired among Jews in Israel and in the diaspora. ‘Vessel (1-6)’, which attempt to surround and contain it, reflect the possibility of hope through the next generation amidst the challenges of parenting, in the shape of abstracted, botanical and figurative forms.
