The series of paintings presented in this pop-up collaboration with Coriander Leaf Restaurant, Singapore explore the sublime power of nature, reflecting on the influence of our imagination during the collective experience of covid. Her use of rich blues evoke a sense of exotic escapism, exploring the process by which imagination can intrude on physical and mental space and transport the viewer into unknown, dream-like environments, reflecting on local folklore and her personal heritage within Asia. Her work considers the limits of representation in relation to the imprecision of memory. Memories are deeply held human experiences and remain evocative, especially in a transient urban landscape such as Singapore. In an ever-changing environment images, sounds, tastes and smells can be a powerful reminder of landscapes imagined, experienced or close to one’s heart. Chloë’s practice explores the fragility of vision and our intrinsic attachment to landscapes which underpin our sense of identity. The power of our imagination is that it allows us to see things from more than one perspective, imagining what was, re-imagining what is, and perhaps what could be.
